Plaques & Tangles

Plaques and tangles are prime suspects when it comes to tissue loss and neuron death among Alzheimer’s patients. Plaques develop when beta-amyloid clump around nerve cells, while tangles are formed from the protein known as tau. When tangles form, strands of tau become twisted, resulting in cell death.
